Question About Federal Speeding Ticket

The wife (no pics) received a speeding ticket from a federal police officer. The top of the ticket says United States District Court Violation Notice however the offense charged is under state code 32-5A-171,for excessive speed 53 in a 40. Does she have to appear in court to have this lowered to a non-moving violation? We live in Texas but the ticket was issued on federal land in Alabama.

To have it lowered, I believe you have to appear in court. Good luck.

This is the first speeding ticket either of us have ever received (28 y/o). If we just pay the ticket I'm guessing the federal process will place points against her license in Texas? I don't care so much about that but will it raise our insurance rates?
Also if she does appear in court is it fairly automatic to have it reduced?

If you were an illegal immigrant, this wouldn't be a problem.

Call the DA
Got a speeding ticket in New Orleans. Called the DA and told them I will gladly pay the fine, but can I do anything to keep it off my record. They told me to send them a money order and the ticket and that was that.

I'm pretty ignorant of the legal system, but is there a DA in federal court?

Should be a U.S. Attorney

She has to go before the Supreme Court. She's gonna get Ginsburg'd. RIP.

It's still a state charge but it happened on a road over which federal police (such as the Park Police on the Geo. Washington Parkway here in Virginia) have jurisdiction.
Your wife will have to appear before a Federal Magistrate Judge to have the charge reduced.

Turn her in and get a new wife.
And pick one that drives slower.
Good luck.

How do you go about approaching a US attorney to reduce the charge and avoid appearing in court to save everyone the trouble?

I got a ticket for slow rolling a stop sign on the Natchez Trace (Federal) in MS. I paid the ticket and sent the check to an address in Philadelphia, PA. Had I wanted to contest it I would have had to go to Federal Court in either Oxford or Aberdeen, MS.

I'd try to call. I wouldn't be surprised if the US Attorney would not do anything before the court date so that he/she can consult with the officer before a reduction, though.

Is that information provided when they mail you your court date and appearance info?

Nope. Clarence Thomas handles the female federal case. Hopefully she's cool with being spanked.

I doubt it. You'll have to look that up and call the office.

Just so you know, federal tickets don't go on your driving record. I got one at the grand Canyon about 10 years ago. Paid the fine, no problems.
I called the Central Violations Bureau on the ticket and they claimed they would report it to Texas.
