With rare exceptions (mother's life in jeopardy), I cannot wrap my head around abortions. Taking a life because it's inconvenient is inconceivable.

Yes, but she can't just decide willy-nilly. Have to do paper, rock, scissors or eenie, meenie, miney, moe to legally choose which one gets to live and which two die.
ETA:
And if the mother and father disagree on which one lives and which one dies, they have to go to binding arbitration to settle it.
