That's the Ferris wheel from COD 4. That place looks spooky as shite.

Really cool stuff. I'm fascinated by abandoned civilizations, buildings, etc.

The amusement park was set to open right after the meltdown; meaning no kids ever used any of the rides.

I wonder that the radiation level is now?

Not creepy.

Looks cool.

Exactly what an abandoned city stuck in time should look like.

Still very high and will be for 1,000s of years.

They showed an older couple who moved back on the CBS special last week. They were in their 60s-70s and moved back to the area 3 years after the meltdown.

Also, a group from a University in South Carolina has a lab there, running radiation tests on animals in the area and the effects.

They had a special on 60 Minutes last Sunday. I'm intrigued by it. Creeps me out, though.

LINK

You can book a tour of the area, there are "hot" spots on the grounds and equipment from specs of fuel rods that rained down on the area which prevents permanent habitation, but the levels are generally low for short tours.

Am surprised there is so much lush greenery in the area. Would think radiation would affect that??

It's actually a thriving wildlife sanctuary now. The report I saw on it didn't find any obvious mutations or extinctions, although there was a brief time of that in the immediate aftermath. However, a lot of the radiation is passed down to offspring, so they think those kinds of things could still emerge.

I've been to Pripyat on the ground about 6 years ago. We could only stay there 2 hours for safety reasons but it was the creepiest two hours of my life. Post apocalyptic. The children's toys still in baby beds made me tear up.
