I'm just happy the article calls them "water heaters" instead of "hot water heaters".

Do you live with the Duggars or something? Why in the hell do you have 135 gallons of hot water capacity?

Looks like someone didn't properly winterize their abandoned house during the winter months. I wonder if it was insured, I bet so.

Yea I just posted in my previous post that houses with water heaters in the attic will be screwed going forward.

Attic ladders are usually 22" wide to fit between the joist.

It's a repo house. The banks have a blanket insurance policy to cover those plus they will seek a claim against the GL of the contractor that didn't properly winterize it.

I suspect then that this will force a decision between doing the carpentry necessary to replace the heater (no matter what the age of the house) and switching over to a tankless heater and the necessary plumbing and venting requirements.

Sounds like no matter the age of the home, it will be an expensive proposition regardless.

Forward! Elections do have consequences.

Even in the extreme Northern parts of this country, I would not have thought that much water could freeze in a basement. I thought basements more or less stayed around the same temp all year.

Just another way to get money from the people who actually contribute. frick everyone on welfare and other entitlements that aren't disabled and they didn't work for, I hope they die. Yes I am mad, they steal and get a free pass.

shite, in AZ if you have a heater in the attic you don't have to pay for hot water 1/2 of the year when it is 100+ in attics.

A vacant house with no heat and no air circulation is cold during the winter even here in Louisiana. Can't imagine how bad it is in Michigan or something.

It's a major issue that banks deal with during the winter up North. Even here we have to Winterize houses to keep pipes from freezing but up there they have to Winterize everything including the radiators and they have to always make sure the sump pump is working. If not they have an allowable from the bank to replace it on the spot.

When my parents lost power from a hurricane, the first person to shower in the evening got hot water because the heater is in the attic.

Mom was the only one who wanted it. Everyone else was sweating their balls off already

will conceded that houses with water heaters in attics are fricked.

So glad I sold my house which had it in the attic. What a nightmare. Who ever thought putting them there was a good idea.

Built a home and made sure it was in the garage.

tell your friends to buy a few old-style units now & squirrel them away for when theirs goes out.
