The Washington Times

quote:

Two years ago, Army Gen. Martin E. Dempsey, the nation’s top military officer, laid down an edict on the Obama administration’s plan to open direct land combat jobs to women: If women cannot meet a standard, senior commanders better have a good reason why it should not be lowered.

quote:

A IOC diploma is a must to earn the designation of infantry officer. Of 29 women who tried, none graduated; only four made it through the first day’s combat endurance test.

quote:

Gen. Dempsey laid down the law this way: “If we do decide that a particular standard is so high that a woman couldn’t make it, the burden is now on the service to come back and explain to the secretary, why is it that high? Does it really have to be that high?"

This is a slight hijack, but I never understood why women are flat out banned from participating in certain capacities in the armed forces.

If they can pass a physical or endurance test, why not let them participate?

Absolutely not, the females that made it through the infantry training enlisted side, were already helped. They couldn't pass the conditioning hikes

No General, they were just set that high to ensure a better chance of survival and effectiveness for the Marine and those surrounding said Marine.

Exactly. They physically can't keep up with their male counterparts.

On another note, are military women as big of whores as I've heard?

Thats pretty much what this is about.. The standards are the standards and they arent being met. To put not only themselves in unneeded danger but other soldiers is a ridiculous thought.

Marines are already a bunch of pansies so they probably wouldn't even notice.

To be clear, I don't think the standards should be lowered, but if there IS a woman out there who could pass current standards, I see no problem with her being included.

Something built into some of, just doesn't allow for the woman to take charge/get shot at first..Brass is afraid that your instincts will kick in, and you'll try and protect her

The article states that they are considering lowering standards for women. No one on this thread has stated the Marines should exclude a woman who can pass the same tests the men can.
