The sad thing is after Rudy cleaned the city up (and made them billions in increased property values) there were NYers who complained that he cleaned it up too much. The city had lost some of its "grit" and was too "sanitized".

Why are the bridesmaids dressed like Abu, the monkey from Aladdin?

Some relatives were in NYC this summer. Stayed at an Airbnb on the upper east side near Columbia. Rode the subway, including at night. Never felt unsafe. They said the rats were everywhere thought.

I mean, it’s not Fallujah and the area I’m in is very clean and safe. But you have to keep your head on a swivel much more. For instance a woman running at 530am in what was a generally safe area along the Hudson was attacked and raped by a homeless person two days ago. Same with random subway attacks.

I believe that Columbia University is in Morningside Heights on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.

I remember flying up to NYC once in 1976 while I was working offshore in the Gulf. Place was a total shite show. Didn't go back until 1983 after Rudy had taken all the trash out. I would have just stayed if I could have made enough money to live like I wanted to live. Damn, I miss those times.

What Giuliani did for NYC, both in terms of taking down the mob and cleaning up as mayor, cannot be quantified.

But I've been told he is an election denier (despite Gore, Clinton, and Abrams denying before him) so he should probably rot in prison.

Watch some old NYC movies from the 1970's, it is not a pretty place. Seven Ups and French Connection. Was probably great fun for a single guy in his twenties but not a good place to live and support a family.

Rudy wasn't mayor until 11 years after that. He wasn't even a fed prosecutor until june of 83.

You are right. I stand corrected. The further I get down the road of time the more muddled events and trends start melding together. I remember going shopping for clothes in the Bowery on Orchard St on Sunday morning with a hangover. Good times.

Same thing all those 26 people who have been shoved on the tracks thought right before they got nailed. My coworker who lives there knew the 40 year old woman that got randomly shoved in front of the train and killed this last summer.
