Did any teachers come and complain?
You are a tool.
Everyone bitches about teachers but I guarantee most wouldn't make it a week.
However, the last 16 days off were great. Thank you for reminding me how great I really have it.

aren't quite as slutty/gold digging as other professions with many of the same positive qualities (like nurses).

I met this chick at city bar once and she told me she was a teacher and what and where she taught. Later in the night she was making out with this urban boy in the middle of the dance floor. I asked her, "where did you say you taught?" and she turned white as a sheet and left the bar.

That's my teacher story I guess

I am going to put this out there but am unsure if my math is tight so correct me as needed.

Time off:

2 weeks at Christmas

1 week at Thanksgiving.

1 week at Easter

1 more week total in assorted holidays

12 weeks for summer

This equals 17 weeks per year off. That would mean that there are 35 weeks a year worked. This would equal 165 days. Let's call it 8 hours a day even though many work 6-7 when you take out for lunch or differing schedules.

165 x 8 = 1320 hours worked.

$45,000 a year divided by 1320 hours equals a little over $34 per hour. In addition to this is insurance and retirement.

Is $34 bucks an hour, plus benefits all that bad?

Are education majors unable to find out what teaching pays until after they get a degree? They all seem to act like the pay is such a huge surprise, and disappointment.

As I said earlier, please correct me where I am wrong.

And then have the opportunity to "double-dip". But yes, by all means they are "underpaid"

Teachers here in Kentucky are facing a pretty big retirement crisis in that it might not be there because the state has dipped into it so much to fund other projects.

Also teachers here who are forced to pay into the KTRS do not pay social security and cannot draw a spouse's social security benefits either like many other professions can.

So what double dipping are you speaking of?

I think he was speaking of being able to retire after 20 years, then work somewhere else that is covered under social security.

This would give them two retirements.

Gotcha. They way it's set up here, you can only work X hours (it's like part time I think) and then you give up your teacher retirement. You also take a hit on your retirement the longer you work in teaching.
