Plantar Fasciitis Suffers--FYI success with new balance shoes and insoles

FYI for the runners suffering from plantar fasciitis, I've been battling for over 6 months. Tried the stretching, ice bottles, tennis balls, night splint and foot still hurt like hell. A coworker mentioned special new balance shoes. I went to the store and they recommended shoes, however I think it's more the insole they sold me with the shoes. I am now training for the CCC and up to running 12 miles a week. So if anyone is suffering, they are worth a shot.

Can you link the shoes or the insoles?

Mine is so bad that I can't run. I've used Brooks in the past but currently have some Asics. Some days are really bad and it hurts to walk after a long day on my feet. Good luck.

Orthotics might help. Check your insurance, some cover custom inserts. If not, you might try these:

I am not a runner but I walk several hours a day. Of the nonprescription inserts I tried these worked best.

I wear Powerstep insoles. They wear out quick though. They work but i have been looking for something more durable. What insoles are you wearing?

I have suffered with this for years. Shots helped briefly. The only thing that helps me is NEVER go barefoot and I always wear a birkenstock shoe insert. You must have heel cup support and arch support. Trust me. Around the house I wear birkenstock slip-ons.

Same here, Barefoot is a no go. I wear Nike slip on sandals most of the time, one of the few things that are comfortable to me. I have found the pressure of shoe makes the pain worse.

Custom orthotics. I battled debilitating pain for years and put it off for some dumb reason but finally went to a sports Med doc. He prescribed custom orthotics and the relief was IMMEDIATE. My insurance covered all but $70. I have had the inserts for years and they still work. I was such an idiot to wait.

I've had a solid 6mo of pain. 2 podiatrist, 3 orthotics(1 custom) ice, stretching et al. Finally went to a chiropractor and got significant relief in a week. Not pain free but way better. Seems like hokum but... who cares

Thank God this got rid of it for me. FYI, I also switched from New Balance to Hoka running shoes.

podiatrist bat signal lit up...
Shoes are a very important piece of the treatment for PF. you need to find a good, sturdy (one that does not easily fold in half like those minimalist shoes) running shoe. Running shoes are preferable because they have an eleveated heel, which takes tension off the plantar fascia.
However, no shoe alone provides enough support. Powersteps are a good brand which a lot of doctors carry in their office. Spenco is a very good brand carried at most sporting good stores as well as online. I think you'll find most doctors will dissuade patients from dr. scholls. They're overpriced and not that good.
Custom orthotics are the best bet as they are specifically molded to your foot and last for years. However, as stated they can be expensive (usually ~350) and few insurances cover them. I usually don't jump to customs until much cheaper over the counter insoles have failed.
For anyone in the greater NOLA area, Varsity Sports is hands down (IMHO) the best place to get shoes for people with foot/leg problems. The owner has a PhD, I believe, and they know exactly what shoes work for what conditions.

Also, as already stated, barefoot is the worst. Any time you are walking barefoot you are exacerbating the problem. We usually tell people that sleeping and bathing are the only times they're allowed to be barefoot.

I had painful PF in my left foot for almost 2 years. That was also when I was doing a lot of Beachbody videos where you did lots of jumping in them. And was hiking at least twice a week. Went to a podiatrist. He did xrays and gave me some inserts, suggested exercises, stretches, ice, etc.
Those all helped a lot. I also bought one of those heel rocker things to do stretches at home. Bought an over the counter foot sling that I slept in as well.
The thing that helped me the most....changing my activities. I stopped doing the videos where I'm jumping around. Bought a bike and a kayak and don't hike as much now(which also helped relieve some of the knee pain I was having as well). I haven't needed any of my PF stuff in over a year because of that. But notice the symptoms are quick to come back if I start hiking more, etc.
ETA: I walk barefoot around the house all the time. Wear my flip flops almost year round in AZ. When I was hiking/doing the jumping around...this caused pain. Since changing activities....I can go back to being barefoot/wearing flip flops with no problems.

The draconian barefoot rules are only for the acute stages of pf. Those rockers like you got are excellent as well. I have one myself and use it every day. I just feels good.

It really does.
To those that are wondering what we are talking about...
They are pretty cheap...like $20. Use it after a workout at home.

I got nb and replaced the insoles with custom md insoles.
Victory.
I also have strappy velcro things you wrap around feet and legs that keep your feet from flopping down, tensioning the whole tendon system. Did that for a year.
