let's say someone in your family screws up a relationship with someone you like. Do you say bye-bye to that someone you like just because it's a family member involved?
Seen it way too many times. Some people are just way to do or die family to see through the bullshite as well.I'm still friends with some of my exes family from past relationships.

Might as well be grown up about it. I get along with my SO's ex husband.

My sisters were best friends with my brothers ex-wife. They still are after the divorce. Drives him nuts.

I try not to burn bridges so I really try to avoid allowing someone else burn bridges for me so whatever goes on between two people, that's between them. If they bring in others or others feel the need to join them then that's their decision. A responsible adult shouldn't pick sides.

I like my ex wife's family a lot and they me. Many of them told me on multiple occasions that they would choose me over her. I decided not to continue hanging out with them because it's better for them and my wife was uncomfortable with it the one time we ran into them tailgating and hung out for a little while.

very well said. Some of my best friends are cousins of one of my exes. And she left me. I just valued their friendship enough to look past the breakup.

Does she expect them not to befriend you? If I became friends with someone a cousin of mine is dating/married to and they break up/divorce.. Whatever happened in their relationship is between them. I have a large family and if I see them, it is usually at a family gathering, which I don't always attend.. which others don't always attend as well. I can't tell you what most of my relatives do or whether or not if they are married, etc so it wouldn't be that big of a deal if I would remain friends with someone's ex.
