Does anyone else find this to be insulting, or is it just me? I'm Christian/Catholic, but I get so irritated when something happens and people basically say "prayers sent". Well shite, thanks. What else can we do to ACTUALLY help the situation?? Maybe donate blood. Maybe donate a few dollars to the Red Cross or the families of the victims. Prayers don't do shite when there is zero effort behind them.

This is what triggered me today:

Orlando mass shooting: Louisiana governor offers prayers

quote:

"Donna and I, along with every citizen in Louisiana, send our thoughts and prayers to the victims and their families. We stand ready to support the state of Florida in any way that we can to bring justice for those whose lives were lost."

I'm sorry you're offended. Maybe, just maybe you need to get off your high horse.

Some people can only afford to offer a prayer. They may not can afford a monetary donation. They may be on medication not allowing them to donate blood. So basically I'm trying to say, frick OFF!

Yeah Wolfhound did it to me earlier on the poli board - really pissed me off.

I made the first post about the shooting and he comes in 9 replies later and piously offers "prayers to the victims and their families", you can tell he was calling me out for not offering worthless prayers to a non-existent god in the op.

It's a kind gesture... What's wrong with that? Also, seems to be a gross generalization that those who offer prayers don't also help in other ways as well.

One thing that does piss me off is at funerals people will tell the deceased's family (especially when it's untimely) that this was "all part of God's plan". Will never forget being at the visitation of a friend who was killed by a drunk driver when he was 15 and this woman saying this repeatably to people who were there. Oh really, it was part of God's plan for him to get run over by a guy who previously had 3 DUIs. Great and kind plan there, God.

taking a wild shot here: people of faith feel their prayers will help in some way ...

maybe the people affected by the tragedy will in some way be comforted, however insignificant, by prayers and thoughts from abroad ...

maybe the OP should see the forest? ...

I question people like you who are offended on how other people grieve. Just ignore it if it bothers you that much... its not that hard.
