People at work who email way too much

160 emails from the same person in one month's time. They work from home and must think sending emails is actually doing "work". The more emails sent = she is actually doing work, am I right?
I would have to have absolutely nothing else to do besides keep up and distill these emails from one person.
So far, 167 and counting for the month of October.

I have to send a lot of emails at work when a phone call would do to have tangible proof. It creates accountability.

No doubt. Have a suckass at work that sends out countless emails for every step he takes at work.
Can't do something without making sure every level of management knows.

Are they work related? Reply "Unsubscribe"

I probably send close to 100 emails per day. A phone call wastes more time, and I can post my email to our software for accountabilty if shite goes wrong.

At work , I have classified people as work makers, and work doers.
Sending email is making work. Don't be a work maker.

The worst is the one person who always replys all on company wide emails that don't require responses

nervous about being percieved as not contributing
I would just get them to do more of my work and not read the emails

I would like to add that 95% of people I need to contact do not work in my office.

1/2 the emails are pointless and do not warrant a reply. I get pi$$ed because I have to go back and put the puzzle together of what she actually did while sifting through garbage emails.
The best is when she says, "I put in an email". I'm like which one of the 167+ from the past month that you sent me did you put it in?

Don't get me wrong, I prefer email as it creates a trail and you can backup what was sent, what somebody said they did, etc.

Hit reply to every email she sends saying thanks and confirming it was received.
If she is sending email lots of others, involve them in also confirming that they had received her email. That should keep her busy having to read all the confirmations.

Bingo.
I used to have one of these in my office.
She intercepted the mail from the delivery guy, and then would stick post-it notes on every single piece of the mail, her asking me "let me know what you decide about this".
This was but a tip of the iceberg of her faux-productivity that all came crashing down over the course of a few months.

This is why we email so much at work. Every email is copied in the claim notes.
There is a sticker on the top of one of my monitors, that was here when I started and is on everyone's, that says "If it isn't in the notes, it wasn't done".

I just checked and I've sent 660 this month. Sorry for partying

I don't even want to know how many I have sent and received this week. I've sent 22 and received 64 this morning alone though.
I decided before lunch that I am not working this afternoon and that I am leaving in about an hour. No more emailing for me today.

I hate phone calls. Nothing gets resolved. They're like meetings. When someone emails me and asks me to call them it makes me rage. Just ask your fricking question in the email and you'll get a much faster response from me. If my customers had their way I'd spend all day on the phone and not get any work done.

This!!!!
I will spend 30 minutes on the phone discussing something that takes 5 minutes, tops, to email.
And I deal with State employees for a living. I don't really want to talk to most of them anyways.

I can always tell when there is a managers meeting. Instead of 50 emails that day, I get 5.
