the name Champagne?

I was intoduced to a girl from down on Bayou Teche and she gave me her business card. On the card her last name is Champagne, but she didn't pronounce like you would the alcoholic beverage of the same spelling. I didn't really catch the way she pronounced it.

she pronounced it the french way, which sounds something like "shompine"...always tough for folks to say it that way...

Now we're getting input on Cajun dialect from someone who buys pre-chopped onions.

The "ch" is silent. It's 'am - pag - on -ah'
