Patagonia.
North Face is available at Dicks. It's like one step from being featured at Target or Walmart. Any poor can save pennies and buy it. Patagonia is harder to acquire and therefore more elite.

Yeah, Patagucci. I thought it was Columbia that has gone cheap, I didn't know that about North Face.

Patagonia. I like the efforts that the owner makes to be environmentally friendly.

Patagonia. The best warranty in the business. Price point isn’t as high as Arteryx. You have to put up with the ever increasing SJW stuff though.

Most NF stuff is “Lifestlye” now.

ETA: just picked up a Patagonia goretex shell from Evo (as well as skis and boots). They have having a great sale right now.

The old Patagonia gear was bulletproof. Haven’t bought any in years because it never wears out. Never owned any North Face stuff.

FWIW hardcore ski/climbing/backcountry bums are too poor to have any brand allegiance. They wear whatever the posers have donated at the thrift shop.

ETA I met a geology PhD student doing field work in Alaska. Every summer he would buy several pair of wool suit pants at goodwill for like a buck apiece. He'd wear one pair until it had holes in it, then start wearing the next pair. Cheap, warm, and disposable.
