Is this normal? Someone on the team bought them and expect to be reimbursed by all of the parents of the players.

Ehh at 6 I don't think it's a big deal. LOL at them expecting to be reimbursed when they didn't ask you though.

I have heard of youth league trophies, but I have never heard of someone expecting the parents to help foot the bill. Usually that's something the coach/es do out of the kindness of their heart.

That's actually pretty ridiculous for them to expect reimbursement.

i think the coaches should decide whether or not to buy them---and if they do the coaches should foot the bill. they're pretty damn cheap. i'd never expect parents to chip in.

I remember in tee ball, and coaches pitch we would get trophies at the end of the season, but once I was in little league, the only trophies we would get would be if we won a tournament.

IMO its normal, but at 6 years old, this be the last season a participation trophy should be given out.

That person shouldn't be reimbursed at all.

Don't know how it's done elsewhere but where I live at that age participation trophies are the norm and the cost of them are included in the registration fee.

Hey Coater,

I just bought you and the OT participation trophies.

Y'all all owe me $19.95.
Thanks for participating.

Yep. Once they get older and more competitive, that will go away.

Meh. 6 year olds no big deal. T-shirts would be better for the kids though. And those little iron on soccer ball patches are pretty cool if they are handed out for specific accomplishments. The trophies are at least as much for the parents as for the children.

If they truly "expect" to be reimbursed, that is not cool at all. The kids will be introduced to the "pay to play" concepts soon enough. If some of the parents just decided to chip in because they wanted to, that's fine.
