Just curious as what the OT thinks of this. I had to go meet someone for business today. In the previous meetings, I would get my ticket validated. This time, it completely slipped my mind. Anyways, parking rates are as such:
quote:

Number of Spaces: 185
Hourly Rate: $4
Daily Rate: $16
Miscellaneous Rates: $2 each 30 minutes; $16 daily max; special events as posted.

I parked at 9:40. I left at 11:12. The attendant charged me $8 for the full two hour rate. I'm not going to haggle over a couple of bucks (instead, I'll post about it on an internet message board )

Was I overcharged? Should I have said something? Am I being too much like George Costanza? What would the OT have done?

I would have said something bc the attendant is possibly pocketing the difference. If she does it to every car, that adds up.

So 9:40-10:40=$4.00, add 30 minutes, that's 11:10 + $2.00. You went over that, so you get charged another $2.00 which totals $8.00. Seems pretty simple.

It's always been that way, especially parking at airports

No, you were there for longer than 1:30.

Yep, and I don't think the attendants actually calculate the total at most parking lots. Most just scan the ticket and it comes up automatically with how much you owe.

Based on the rates presented I would assume it is billed in 30 minute increments.

1 hour 32 minutes=$8

Do you really expect a minimum wage parking lot attendant to know how many minutes there are in an hour?

They are probably taught to round off to the nearest hour.

P.S. As an aside, I was leaving the airport at Phoenix Sky Harbor. They had just installed new card readers to tell you how much you owed. There was no signage to show how to insert the ticket. I inserted it with the magnetic strip down and on the left. It did not read. I tried with the strip on the right.

The attendant looked out her window and asked what was the problem. I said "It won't read my card".

She pulled the card out of the reader and said "You put it in wrong". I said "I get that a lot lately".

It took forever for her to tell me how much I owed. I asked her why. She said "I am running your license plate".

This. For the same reason that you pay at the beginning of the 30 minutes and not the end. Otherwise you would expect to be able to par for 27 minutes and pay nothing.

If a waitress does it, it's a tip. If a parking lot attendant does it, it's stealing. Hardly seems fair.
