As others have said, the train systems in and near Paris and London are such that you don't really need a hotel right in the middle of everything.

Heck, the time I went to Paris my hotel was actually in Versailles but was very close to a station (most hotels close to one station or another it seemed like) as well as to the palace.

We just stayed at the Doubletree in Islington on Pentonville Rd. last week. It is walking distance to the Kings Cross terminal. KC is a major terminal that can get you around London or off to other areas of Europe.

Late october we stayed Relais Hôtel Vieux Paris. Awesome location highly recommended regardless of the hotel u choose. I believe it is in arraignment 6. You'll want to check out the arraignments (I think that's what tgey are called at least) and Google them. The hotel itself was nice and the desk was awesome help. At least check out this hotel just for the area.

London we stayed at the Rubens at the Palace. That was a nice stay.
Goes without saying but def do the London eye. I just wish we had done it at night.

Also before this trip never was a fan of the hop on hop off bus tours but changed my mind. They stop at all the major sites and a great way to get around.

Truly depends on your budget. I brought the wife, parents and mother in law to Europe this summer, so I had to look for midrange hotels. Don't have any recommendations for London. Paris though, I enjoyed the Montmartre area. Stayed at the Tim Hotel Montmartre. Got a tower view room that was incredible. Price wasn't bad. 1 block from the metro station. And sacre couer was about 3 blocks away. I know it's not OT baller status, but it was nice a trip.

Saint Germaine area. We stayed at the Hotel Saint Germaine years ago and it was wonderful. I want to return so badly.
