It's not as bad as a grown man trying to raise money to fund his hobby. Some field hand was walking around the office asking for donations or for me to buy a $20 raffle ticket the other day to help fund some bass tournament circuit he had qualified to fish.

Uhhhhh, are you going to give me money so I can play nicer golf courses or buy that new driver I've been wanting?

I will buy/donate if there is any product or service involved (bbq/jambalaya dinner, raffle, candy, car wash, etc). I deny the straight handouts.

I don't mind if I'm getting something in return. These kids at intersections holding out buckets fricking piss me off.

Friend of mine clerked at a court. One of the female employees was going around one day selling catfish dinner tickets. He asked her what it was for and she said it was for her nephew. When he asked why her nephew needed the money, she said "he don't do right".

I'd say it depends on the situation.

I'm not giving money to someone who has a new car, new iPhone, etc so their kid can go play travel ball.

If I knew the parent(s) didn't have much and were just trying to give their kid something new to learn and do, I don't see the problem. Help the kid out.

Speaking of which, I'm apart of a lot of motorcycle groups. I get aggravated by the constant barrage of motorcycle fundraisers for people who crash. You picked a dangerous hobby, your arse should of had a better job and insurance if you wanted to risk your life. I'm not your backup fund.

Believe it or not, requests for straight donations outperform service exchanges by a wide margin.

1) Some types of people beg on the street for money. Holding a poster or bucket.

2) Some types of people offer a service for money (lemonade, car wash, cookies, etc.)

3) Some types of people are pieces of shite.

4) Some types of people are good people who are just a bit down on their luck.

I enjoy helping #2 and #4, but #1 and #3 can suck a dick.

I think it's bs. I coached, paid for my own kids as well as paid for other kids on the team....Yeah, OT baller status.

People normally have or can find the money. They simply choose not to find it or spend it on youth sports. Some people view it as a scam to get other people to pay. The parents of one kid I paid for showed up to the park with a new pre-owned vehicle. Uh, I never paid for another kid again.

The worst crap is these high schools. My kids have played high school sports and I hate the raffles, card sales, pine straw sales, etc. always with the shakedowns. I just right a check to cover my kids.
