Paging OT Vets and dog experts: Ear Infection

Female, lab mix, 9 years old. Has had a light yellow/beige puss-like accumulation in her ear over the past few days. I've been gently cleaning it, but it reappears by the next day. Leakage is a bit more today.
Before I take her to the vet, is there any natural or OTC medication I can give her, or does she definitely need an antibiotic? Thank you.

most ear infections can be fixed using a medicated flush solution. You pour the recommended amount in the ear canal and rub the solution into the ear vigorously.

A little regular ear wax.

is she in pain or whimpers when you touch her ears?

I use a cotton ball to remove excess liquid afterwards
If she is just scratching at it & shaking her head this will work
If ears are hot, bleeding or there is a lot of puss I would take her to vet

She shakes her head some, but doesn't welp. When I clean them she normally doesn't whimper unless I hit what I guess is a tender spot.

Sometimes infections like that can occur just from playing outside and having water sneak in there or from prolonged dirt build up.
A solution I have in my house that works well is glenhaven therapeutics ceruclean ear cleanser but any basic flush you can find at a vets office will work. They also sell over the counters at Petco/Petsmart.
Also be extremely careful when cleaning. I would not recommend using a swab on anything but the surface of her ear. If you want to go deeper I would use a cotton ball.

Vet Tech sitting across the desk from me just said that the issue with home cleaning, especially with it already being swollen, is that you aren't getting down to where the infection resides. It is way down in there.
If you aren't getting it clean, you aren't going to get rid of the infection. You need to take her into the vet for steroids to get the swelling down so that it can get clean.

Yep my female hound mix always has ear problems. Wife did the home care stuff, but never worked. Took her to the vet and they prescribed steroid medicine. After that she has no issues.
Like someone above said its from dirt, water or heat in the summer. If the dogs ears are long enough the vet might suggest drops and then to tie up the dogs ears.
