Plumbing work is too damn expensive. We need more plumbers to bring costs down.

Umm, I went to college and got a real degree.

My liberal French art studies degree keeps me from doing real work.

Is plumbing an actual course in some trade schools? I took computer/telecommunication electronics in trade school and glad I did.

I have a EE degree. The reason I went to college was to avoid blue collar shite work.

definitely a plus to learn something and that it not even be in your career field.

carpentry
electrical
plumbing
engines

will save you mega bucks in your lifetime. If you ever get the chance to learn from someone suck it up like a sponge.

There is a plumber in town who charges $200/hr. That's what a lot of lawyers charge per hour in BR.

It's a sad state of affairs when the blue collar staff gets paid more than the white collar guys.

It's fairly common for the iron workers and welders to get paid more than the structural engineers in NYC.

Talked to some construction workers who are making 6k a week, working 130-140 hours. They'll work for 4-5 months and have the winter off.

Don't they have to pay a hefty amount to their union? I had some telecommunication union New Yorkers arguing with me because I wasn't union. They were bragging they were making $35 an hour. I asked how much are their union dues and they shut up and walked off the job site.

Why is it sad?

A good plumbing contractor can wipe his arse with most bachelor degrees

It definitely comes out per check, but it's up to each local to figure out the dues. If I had to ballpark it's probably $70-80/paycheck, but that's a pure guesstimate.

I would hope those with more professional responsibility and education get paid more. That's obviously not always true.

Is that humor? Many of the hardest, most dangerous jobs don't get paid nearly what they should. Why are so many people sitting on their butts in a comfy office making so much money? I don't believe in socialism, but a lot of people make a lot of money for easy work.
