Can both fit in a collection without redundancy?

The bands are different, but the face is practically the same. How much are you tying up between those 2 watches?

Seamaster is about $4,000.

Submariner is around $7,500.

Why the hell not?

if you have the money for watches like this, and you enjoy collecting, then go for it. I love watches, and I'll probably build up a collection when I get older.

I'm hoping some day I have this:

I have a seamaster and sea dweller in my collection and both are black dials.

Rolex prices keep going up and up, and subs specifically. few years ago it was in the 5's

Do they see comparable wrist time?

Not really because I wear a Seiko SKX007 to work during the week and mainly the Sea Dweller on the weekends. I do love my Seamaster though and don't ever plan on getting rid of it. It is one of those you pass down to a kid sort of piece. For reference, mine is the SMP 2254.50 which I feel is the best looking of all of the Seamasters not including the Planet Oceans.

Considering the Seiko also it would appear you are fan of black faced divers.

Omega is doing this also, intentionally to position themselves alongside Rolex.

Tough call, but yeah. I have a blue datejust and plan on getting a black seamaster. While not exactly the comparison you are talking about, it is close

That would be a fair assessment but I do enjoy other colors as well. Always seem to drift away or sell the others though. Black dials go with anything and work for any occasion I guess is the reason. I do love me some dive watches though.

By the way, had a Planet Ocean before as well and would highly recommend it.

I would go with the Omega. This is definitely a situation where you are paying more for the name since the Seamaster is the better watch.

Not sure how you arrive at that conclusion.

Omega makes a comparable watch, but I hate that bracelet on the Seamaster and it would be enough to throw me to the Oyster for sure.

I would go with the Omega Planet Ocean at that price. You can pick one up used for about $2800

I saw a thread on watchuseek the other day that listed several celebrities / dignitaries that were seen wearing this piece recently.

Planet Ocean is a solid choice. I like the orange bezel version for some reason...

I very much regret getting rid of mine. Looking for another one right now.
