I am looking for a dive watch in the $200.00 - $300.00 range. I like the look of this SKX175 ( $229.00 @ Amazon) but it looks like Seiko makes several similar models with slightly different model numbers. Teach me a thing or two. What type of movement, case, etc. should I be looking for? I assume the models that are more expensive are due to the hardware on the inside.

Any recommendations on similar models in this price range worth looking at?

Get a battery-powered watch. Automatics keep shitty time.

I have $150 in rewards on my Amazon card. I'm considering pulling the trigger on this one but wanted to consult the OT know-it-alls for their expert advice beforehand.

That looks like a SKX 009

It's the same watch as the 007, 7S26 movement, workhorse, reliable, but not super accurate, mine is -20 per day...which isn't great at all.

It's a solid watch tho, with lots of modding options.

In the sub $200 range, if you want an auto (I prefer autos), it's tough to beat

Spend up a bit and get this one: Seiko TurtleBetter movement (hacks and handwinds) and better finish. It's part of the the Prospex line, which it their series of tool watches.

Turtle is a bit nicer fit and finish, but it's a bit more bulky.

Great choice. Check out the skx007 as well.

Sometimes you'll see price variations for the models that are destined for the Japanese market. There is a belief that the Japanese watches are better but I believe the only difference is where they are made.

In the $200 auto dive watch, check SKX007/009, the Orient Mako, the Citizen NY2300

What is the difference between Japanese and USA versions?

I saw one youtube vid that said the only difference is that you may get some issues with Seiko US recognizing the warranty on imported models.

I think it's Japanese vs Malaysia

Everything I've read says go with the Japanese version
ETA:
article on reddit discussing this says there's not much difference

Order Placed.

Went with the Japanese movement. Tax was "free" and it was cheaper.

I think the SKX007/009 are the best new watches under $1,000. The more expensive Seiko dive watches are too bulky for me.

I'm going to pull the trigger on this Japan-only Presage pretty soon:

I know you've already placed your order but check with creationwatches . com to make sure you can't get it cheaper. That's where I found this best deal when I bought mine
