You don't get paid for summer. You get paid x a year, divided into 9 or 12, your choice. So she will be getting half of x for working half the year, divided how she wants it.

Good luck with that...a teacher's salary is non-negotiable. Depending on how much they value you coming on for the rest of the year, they might throw a stipend or two your way...which may or may not require actual work. There is a minimal chance of that happening though.

I'm a teacher and I'm telling you everything is negotiable

It depends on the Parish. I started during the month of January and was only paid for the days I worked. (It was like $210 per day). I didn't get paid for holidays, and I didn't get paid during the summer. Plus, I didn't qualify for benefits until I signed my contract in July 1 that year.
