What is this and how do I get rid of it? Short of fire or nuclear weapons? My mother in law has hundreds of these hanging from the overhang on her house. Blasted them away last year with a pressure washer but, they're back again this year.

Does she have cedar or pine trees close?

If so then it's bagworm and you can kill them with sevin.

Or Bacillus thuringiensis(Bt)which is much less toxic than ortho.

Just read a few articles on these things. So they just float around til the find a place to stay? Seems like they like to hang in trees but , these are on vinyl overhangs.

They look like little caterpillars. They make their bags out of leaves/pine and will crawl to a place to attach. If you put 2 in a ziploc they will fight each other for the pine they've already attached.

Will that work on them this time of year? I know it will in the spring... thought that the only way to do anything about them right now was to.. well... pick them off.
