05 Toyota Tacoma

The wiring to my cabin blower motor keeps getting overheated. It gets so hot that it degrades the insulation and causes the copper wire to become brittle. To the point that it breaks the circuit and the blower completely stops working.

Any ideas on what's causing this and how to fix it? Thanks

The blower motor is shorting out internally. If that's not it, then there is a short or grounding issue in the wiring.

Something drawing excess current that the wire can not handle. Something like a blower motor maybe. Or perhaps a rat nest in the blower.

Sounds like the wire has been replaced. Is it the correct gauge wire?

Does that mean the wire breaks, the fuse needs to be replaced, or that the blower stops and will work again later after the blower/AC/heater is turn d of for a while?

The blower is the first suspect, if the wiring has been replaced recently, that is also a suspect. The thing that may give me pause is ift he wiring is breaking and you are not blowing a fuse, it may be a wiring issue, if the insulation is compromised/brittle you should consider replacing the wiring or even the whole harness if possible.

Sounds like a fuse is oversized or being bypassed. It should never get to melting the wire.

But yeah, sounds like a short that someone solved by up sizing the fuse. Didn't realize the result of their actions.

Don't know about the wiring, but the blower motor resistor is known to go out on Tacomas...

Yeah it's definitely the wiring breaking. The fuse has never shot but I've replaced it anyway with the correct size fuse. 50amp if I remember right. I've replaced the blower motor itself after the graphite bushings wore out. I've replaced the resistor twice after the plugs going into it melted. The wiring that I've had to replace has been replaced with a larger gauge wire and that wire works fine, but the old wire will fail again at the location that I spliced.

No way the blower fuse should be 50 amps, that's probably the heater fuse your looking at. Here is a something that may help you.

Heater air blower fuse location.

Also, from what I've read online, it appear what several posters have stated is correct in that the resistor pack is problematic on these units. So that may be the root of your issue.
