Long story short: Wife's sister died in car wreck. We were given full custody of my niece. Father is pos and has relinquished his Guardian rights. Where do we go now? Looking for a decent family attorney preferably with offices close to San Antonio or Austin.

Can't help with the referral, but prayers sent. Way to step up to the plate.

We adopted a kid about 10 years ago. My first stop would be at an adoption agency. They will have the answers you need.

Its honestly pretty easy. My wife and I have a lot of money saved up and my neice is probably the easiest kid ever. Very laid back and intelligent. We put her in a magnet Montessori school last spring. We just haveto get all the legal ththing done.

If Texas is similar to Louisiana and the child was placed with you by social services ( the state) making you a foster parent, the road to adoption may be filled with many hoops and bs.

If the child is not under state care the process is much easier but more expensive.

What a wonderful thing you and your wife are doing for your niece. I was able to adopt my son once my wife and I were married and it is the best move I ever made. Best of luck!

You need to call a family law firm that does divorce and they will be able to direct you on where to go from there.

She is not. My in laws had custody initially but we decided to take over as we make a lot more money (they live on teacher's pensions) and we knew it would be a lot easier. We also live in a way better school district.

I'm betting you didn't go to any of those schools, correct?

that's awful. so sorry for you and especially your wife.

are yall listed in her will as guardians, you don't need to much more i don't believe..

if not, then i am sure you'll still have an easy transition. are you wanting to become the guardians? raising her as legal guardians? parents.. etc?

just wondering how old is she?

really admire you and your wife for stepping up

texas is never like louisiana.. almost no other state is like louisiana when it comes to legal bullshite.

texas is pretty easy and straight forward. (and i hate texas, but at least they do it right)

louisiana has a lot of old law based on old french and spanish roots.. and it's so frustrating at times.
