OT is this a scam?

Buying tickets to the Stanley cup...on craigslist. So I’m already going in thinking it’s a scam. He wants to transfer the tickets via Ticketmaster and pay through Zelle, which I know is reputable. But is there any protection after you pay someone through Zelle that they’ll transfer the tickets or would I just have to trust the guy?

Use PayPal. They have buyer protection and if the seller dicks you over, they'll cover it and take the loss. Make sure their e-mail address makes sense compared to their name.

I wouldn't trust it.
Way too many counterfeits, etc. even without the notoriety of buying stuff off Craigslist.

Buy tickets to a major American sports league championship on Craigslist bros

Or just call up a connected friend, that’s what I do

I would say yes. But you just never know. A friend of mine bought tickets to the 2009 NFC championship off of Craig’s list.

Sounds fishy to me. I’d only buy from a place like StubHub that guarantees the tickets are legit and will refund the entire price if it turned out to be a counterfeit ticket

It’s almost as if there are dedicated, reputable websites for such transactions to take place. Websites that aren’t the equivalent of a yard sale.

I guess I’ll pass. Not worth the risk it appears

Yes.
In general, if you have to ask yourself "Is this a scam?", yes, it's a scam. Congratulations on not being stupid enough to get scammed.
I'm also about 99% positive your own greed is working against you here because you could just buy the tickets through a reputable resale outlet (whatever that means when Ticketmaster is involved). I'd be willing to bet you don't want to pay what going rate is and this guy is offering you a deal that is just too good for you to ignore, but not so good that your "this is a scam" alarm has fully overcome your desire to get over. Using the greed of the person being scammed to draw them in and bite is the scammer's number 1 tool.

Just curious. What is the price agreed upon? How does that compare to "reputable" outlets?

But, OP, that was a staight cash face-to-face transaction.

LITTLE ROCK (KATV) -
Swiping, scanning or sending to purchase an item or pay a bill becomes more and more commonplace every day.
One Little Rock man got a virtual reality check recently.
Craigslist posts warnings about scams...but not the methods used by scammers.
When a ticket seller told Brian Bennett to pay him using a new money transfer method called Zelle...he didn't think much of it.
When Bennett saw this Craigslist post for Brad Paisley tickets...he contacted the seller.
"And the individual on the other end said he used Zelle,” recalls Bennett. “Did I use Zelle? And I had never heard of it before. I was familiar with it in the sense that I had seen it in my Bank of America app but I had never actually used it previously. "
With the app already conveniently on his phone and offered by his bank, Bennett had a level of trust...a level he now says was misguided.
The seller was a scammer...but because Bennett voluntarily sent his money via Zelle...he was told he was out of luck.
"If someone steals my Bank of America credit card information and they run up a bunch of fraudulent charges on my credit card Bank of America protects me,” says Bennett. “If someone steals checks to my Bank of America checking account and writes a bunch of checks on my account, Bank of America protects me. So...when you are using the Zelle service which sits within the Bank of America app...you assume there are certain protections or similar protections associated with that. But unfortunately that is not the case."
It is not just Bank of America customers who need to know how Zelle works. The number of banks and credit unions partnering with Zelle is growing and already includes Chase, Wells Fargo and Citibank.
And it's not just scammers that can pose a problem. If you enter in a wrong phone number or email address and send money...it may be hard to get that money back.
Part of the appeal of Zelle is increased transaction speed. But that same speed can make it difficult to catch, stop or reverse scam transactions.

Nah, Rockets are +750 for game 6. VI will sometimes have the wrong team listed but it’ll correct it. And thanks to whoever posted the story above.

I have a contact in Las Vegas that probably hates me right now. An error on vi part seems likely
