I was just a youngster in the late 80s and early 90s, but this period of history fascinates me.

Reagan's Speech at the Berlin Wall, the failed coup on Gorbachev, drunken Yeltsin standing on tanks, the execution of Romanian dictator Ceausescu

Those that lived this, what are your memories? I've read several books on the subject, but it doesn't match living it.

My memories from that time include my first day of school, skinning my knee after falling from my snazzy roller blades, and cutting my grandma's plum tree down when I was only supposed to rake its leaves. I peed the bed some, too.

Poliboard history says Reagan, considered the greatest US President in history, used his laser vision to tear down the wall and freed millions of commie slaves.

Just because you don't believe it doesn't mean it didn't really happen.

You forgot the central event which directly ended the Cold War and ended Communism

I remember being completely ecstatic and having a laugh at my Poli Sci professor who only a year earlier told me the Soviet Union was destined to win as it was a "superior" system. The same type people then celebrated Communism are the same people now who are making taking America FORWARD with all their SJW master plans.

It's the same endless Leftist instinct to watch the world burn under the guise of "equality". They fricking LOVE the idea of humanity, they just hate all the fricking actual humans and want to make 1000 rules and regulations to strip them of their rights and nanny them with all their bullshite .

Reagan's Speech at the Berlin Wall

It was one of the highlights of my youth, as well as the fall of the wall and the reunification of Germany.

When Gorbachev (a continued, dedicated supporter of Communism, BTW) was given the Nobel Peace Prize and it wasn't at least shared with Reagan - that tells you all you need to know about the award. The guy that ACTUALLY won the Cold War and ACTUALLY secured peace (for however brief a moment) between the U.S. and Russia is ignored in favor of a Communist dictator who just didn't do anything to stop a revolution.

(Yeltsin didn't get any international awards, either, for that matter. Now, in hindsight, he put Putin in position to be the "new" dictator of Russia, but he should have been awarded for standing firm against the Soviets.)

THis is one of the worst descriptions of Gorbachev I have ever read, congratulations.

What are you, his biographer? I just laugh when people try to hold up Gorby - often the same people who denigrate Reagan. Reagan led a revolution, too. And to much greater success than Mikhail Sergeyevich.

Just like American leftists - Gorbachev didn't think there was anything wrong with communism, just that it needed to be done "correctly". All of his restructuring and openness did precipitate the collapse of the Soviet Union, but that was certainly not his intention. Where am I wrong?
