Has the military started accepting waivers again? More specifically, a waiver for someone with prior convictions. I had two felonies in a non-adjudicated state in 09, completed probation early in 13. The felonies never went on my record due to them being non-adjudicated, and the arrest record was expunged. I scored 93 percentile on the asvab last summer, 127 GT score. Pretty much qualified for any military job. Associates and bachelors degree. No trouble with the law since 09. My lawyer thought I could join no problem, which is why I retook the asvab last year, but my recruiter said they weren't accepting waivers and that my non adjudication was just like a guilty plea in the eyes of the military.

I usually ask this question about twice a year so forgive me if this thread is déjà vu. I really just want to join and serve my country...and get the frick out of this dreaded land of MS.

Any help/advice/contacts are greatly appreciated.

Not a recruiter or active, but have gone through the process with different branches. I think it would really depend on the branch.

I'm hopefully going to be signing my papers come xmas time, so good luck bro

Well, for starters you will not be able to join the Air Force nor the Navy... We'll get that out of the way.

There are certain jobs however in the Army and Marines that will take you, but I'm going to go on a limb and say you will not like nor want said jobs (which are jobs no one wants or heavy combat positions).

The Air Force, which I am in, is kicking people out for the littlest of offenses, so I can 100% guarantee you that you will not be accepted into the Air Force with a criminal background.

This is a little tricky territory since they are expunged, however I would walk in and see what a real recruiter has to say instead of polling a few former vets from the OT.

Are you trying to go into a commissioning source, since you do have a bachelors degree?

What is the degree in?

Only thing said about you is that you can't even hold yourself to a ban bet on an internet forum. Hope you take that signature a little more serious, loser.

Not a recruiter. Officer will be tough with any type of convictions. Really depends on the convictions for enlisted. Also the ype of conviction will affect the type of job you can get. It can affect your security clearance

meh, it's all supply and demand, with the draw down I don't like 7th's chances right now, but I have an ex bil that has to be the oldest retired LT in the history of the Army, had a DUI while enlisted in the Nat'l Guard, could never get OCS, Gulf War amps up and they need warm bodies, they want him to go, doesn't have to but says I'll go as an officer, boom, done, now he' got mil retirement for life

I think most branches are downsizing so you might be SOL. I went in in 1999 and after 9/11 they were taking just about anybody. What you need is another attack and/or war.

Start some shite.

Haha that's pretty badass... But it's also the Army... I can with a 100% certainty tell you he can not join the Air Force. That is factual.

Like you said, tho, it is mostly due to the draw down in force.

Being an officer is not a make it/break it point for me honestly. I'd go in as an E1 infantry. Doesn't matter to me. Degree is in history, the charges were 2x Grand larceny(never technically convicted).

The military is not a "sit back, serve 20 and retire" gig anymore. As another poster said, they are kicking people out for small shite. It's a lot different than your dad's generation.
Air Force and Navy have always been selective, so that is not an option. The Army of all people have gotten a tad more selective. I wouldn't say don't serve, but you'll do better finding a civilian gig and living life. I got out of the AF in 2013 after 8 years, and all I miss the most are the holidays and vacation time. Oh, and the tax free alcohol at the Class 6.
