Expect another round of property tax payments which are due on June 1st, 2017. I have no idea what this new tax bill is for or going towards only that my tax bill is asking for five hundred dollars.

Thanks Mitch!

Why the hell do self respecting people still live in that city. They randomly increase their utility and tax bills with no explanation and people just pay it.

Supplemental tax bills coming soon
Although 2017 property tax bills went out and were due months ago, New Orleans residents will soon receive a supplemental bill with payment due May 31. It covers two taxes that voters approved on Dec. 10: a new millage for fire protection and a renewed one for drainage projects.

The fire millage will yield an estimated $8.9 million per year. It will cost homeowners $25 for every $100,000 of a home’s value.

The drainage millage will provide money to maintain and extend the Sewerage & Water Board’s drainage system, the second largest in the world. The owner of a $350,000 home who qualifies for a homestead exemption previously paid $128 a year for that millage; that bill will drop to about $122 under the new rate.

What was cited didn't make much sense with regard to that.

If I estimate the drainage millage, I still come up with about a $1.5M home.

Yeah, someone replied on the NOLA.com saying that his millage was significantly higher than what the city was claiming it would be.

Just another reason for me to only visit the city while living in boring arse Metry.

The higher tax wouldn't bother me all that much except everyone knows it's going to be pissed away and/or pay for a frickup. The fire higher ups are at fault for not handling the pension properly, the city had a good argument for not paying the pension balance but should have accrued the payments, and the SW&B is completely disfunctional.
