That was one pod of orca. Apparently orcas have different "cultures." Different pods have different learned hunting skills developed for going after specific prey. This one particular pod had developed a hunting strategy for going after sharks. Part of that doc also suggested that all of the sharks in that area of the west coast could smell that one of their own had been killed, immediately dove to below the diving depths of orcas, and headed for Hawaii.

While different pods learn different things I'm willing to bet more than one of knows how to do that.

I find it interesting how all the other Great Whites could smell the blood from miles away though. Makes you wonder when you enter the water just how many other animals know where you are.

The entire point of that doc was that it was unusual for this particular pod to have a culture for hunting great whites.

Orcas get a bad rep for being "killer whales." Sure, they are predators but there have been plenty of examples of them actually helping people in the wild. One guy was diving to catch footage and he didn't realize that he dropped in right where the Orcas were in the middle of a kill. One Orca grabbed the man by the leg and brought him all the way to the shore line and pushed him away, then proceeded right back to the kill site. They are insanely smart.

They top out at like 40mph. What's more impressive to be is that a blue whale can top out at almost 30mph. A blue whale ramming anything at top speed would be a sight to behold.

They can be almost 30 feet long and a male can weigh up to 12k pounds. 40 mph at that size is fricking impressive.

Killer whales are the scariest animal on the planet. Go take an Alaskan cruise and they will follow you for days. You think it's 1-2 and then 8-9 show up like they are hunting you and hoping you fall overboard.
