If the college dose not like it they should voice their concerns with the government. But to remove the flag is retarded liberal idiotic and un American.

Point proved

Your college educated you on the "thought" of Mississippi State and the dangers of handling livestock. Mississippi State taught me how to efficiently rear livestock in order to make great quality of life and support my family and my State.

Glad that beef you eat helps cultivate this great "Thought" that doesn't put a dime in either of our bank accounts.

Is ole miss a private institution. No. It is supported by state taxes and should fly a state flag no matter what the state puts on it.

My ancestors are from Michigan and New Jersey and have never owned or sold a slave while living in the South. Now they could have pre 1930 when they moved here but that would have been in the North, which would kill your great state flag "thinking".

Yes 3 of your buildings are from that era, but along with them the others were built in the most part from alumni donations and state tax dollars from the State of Mississippi. Most of that money comes from estate dollars produced from Slaves. Along with the other University's building including Jackson State, Alcorn, Valley, etc.

And yes, you are correct. This is my State. I live in Mississippi, love her, pay taxes to her, and unfortunately some of my tax dollars go to Ole Miss to keep stirring up PC agendas. I don't stop paying state income tax or stop buying locally, so you should be glad I still support my State so Ole Miss can constantly fill the press with racially based firestorms to again pass a bad light on her.

If Ole Miss would spend more time educating it's students on how to improve the State rather than keep hitting rewind, I wouldn't consider some of tax dollars wasted.

I our state as well. If you hate what's going on in Oxford, you should get some people together and do something about it--saying that genuinely, not being a smartass

You're right, but somebody has to work in this State instead of depend on it it for their livelihood. We've got thousands of people in this State that depend on our tax dollars to fight over a flag or or the name of building instead of using it to promote growth and revenue. We call it the Ole Miss PC club, membership is free paid by the workers of the state of MS.

Oh and I have been on your campus, graduated from the MS Graduate school of Banking. Only one professor was from Ole Miss and guess what he taught..... Banking Policy per the Fair Lending Act (Liberal's policy making it unfair not to lend money to a minority no matter there financial situation). Sounds about par for the Ole Miss rhetoric. Guess who taught Economics and Monetary Policy..... Michael Highfield from Miss State, and was also voted best professor buy the students there and at the LSU Graduate School of Banking.

Actually was the Spring y'all voted on the Black Bear

....but the state said we aren't required to fly the flag....

And we also aren't the only University in the state to not fly the flag.

But I'm confused....I keep hearing about how racist the University is....but now we're a bunch of liberals giving into the PC-police...which one is it?

I mean, on the one hand it's a little sad to see traditions die. But on the other hand I think if most people here are honest with themselves, they can understand why a black person wouldn't be a big fan of Confederate symbolism on campus.

I'm not saying we should rewrite history, and I'm not saying historical monuments should be destroyed (Florida's recent decision to remove the Confederate flag from the Senate seal is dumb, for example), but I don't think it's too much to ask for Southerners to find some other symbol of pride to rally behind that isn't intimately connected to slavery and oppression.

I'm pretty sure there are people out there who believe the stars and strips are intimately connected to slavery and oppression.

But where does it stop? Hell, they call themselves African Americans. Can't wait to see them call for the American flag to change to include some tribute to Africa for all the struggles

Soon, no doubt, YouTube will be blurring out Confederate flags from Lynyrd Skynyrd concert videos.

Oh yeah, Ole Miss, the University Grays say hello...

quote:

University Grays

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The University Greys (or Grays) were Company A of the 11th Mississippi Infantry Regiment in the Confederate Army during the American Civil War. Part of the Army of Northern Virginia, the Greys served in many of the most famous and bloody battles of the war.

The rifle company joined the 11th Infantry at its inception on May 4, 1861 after Mississippi seceded from the Union. Their name "University Greys" derived from the gray color of the men's uniforms and from the fact that almost all of the Greys were students at the University of Mississippi. Nearly the entire student body (135 men) enlisted; only four students reported for classes in fall 1861, so few that the university closed temporarily.

The most famous engagement of the University Greys was at Pickett's Charge during the Battle of Gettysburg, when the Confederates made a desperate frontal assault on the Union entrenchments atop Cemetery Ridge. The Greys penetrated further into the Union position than any other unit, but at the terrible cost of sustaining 100% casualties—every soldier was either killed or wounded.

After Gettysburg, the depleted Greys were merged with Company G (the "Lamar Rifles"). The unit continued to fight until the last days of the war.

In his novel Absalom, Absalom!, William Faulkner placed two characters, Charles Bon and Henry Sutpen, in the University Greys.

The story of the University Grays is memorialized in an opera composed by Dr. Arthur Kreutz who was Professor of Music at the University of Mississippi using text from the book of the same name by Zoe Lund Schiller. The opera was published by Ricordi of New York in 1961. A copy of the score resides in the library of the Northern Illinois University. The opera was given its first performance in 1961 at the University of Mississippi under the auspices of the Department of Music.
