May have had a stroke. He's 17, ask yourself one question, "Will he get any better?"

Very sorry to hear that your pup is struggling. It is probably time for one last ride to the vet.

This was my first thought. But, before you take him, give him the biggest steak you can get him, if he'll eat, that is.

Cataracts themselves can be lasered off for a couple thousand dollars, I think. Had a diabetic dog that developed them, was blind as a bat... after the surgery, he was a completely different acting dog. but he was 10, not 17.

Seriously Rex, have you had the cataracts looked at? A simple surgery could make a huge difference.

Will probably take him back to the vet this afternoon.

Yeah, that's the thing. Very hard to consider putting him down when with a little vision just yesterday he was happy.

This thread makes me
I am way to overly attached to my dog. Don't know what I'm going to do when it's that time.

Or it could kill him considering his age. My dog's 14 and my vet, LSU grad, said he would probably not put her under again for surgery purposes. Said she probably wouldn't come out of it as we would hope for.

Sorry Rex. Decision time is also getting close at my house.

It's been SO worth it, though.

sorry to hear about your dog, but dang man... 17 years is an awesome long time to have with a dog! I can only hope to have that many with mine

And this is what you have to keep in mind.

He was there for you, be there for him.

Had to put my 17 yo shih tzu down not long ago. Felt like a knife going through my guts, but my wife and I were there with her at the end.

Thoughts your way, man

Check out the YouTube videos on dogs with vestibular disease. Mine had a bout with it a few months ago. Causes them to go in circles, head usually tilts to one side. It went away in a couple of weeks. I thought it may be time to put mine down to but she started improving in a few days. My vet gave her a cortisone shot which seemed to help with inflammation.

Give him a last meal, walk him outside, and put a bullet in him. Instant. Any time I've had to have a pet put down, I've done it myself.

It's utterly heartbreaking, it's also the only right thing to do. He gave you a lifetime, don't let a stranger end his.

It is never easy, and it never should be.

Only time I've shed a tear in the last 20 years is when I put my last dog down.

The last time he was this grumpy was when I tried to duplicate him in a sweeter version:

Thanks for that advice. He had a spell of walking around in circles about four months ago. Took him to the vet and about $4000 later we've been giving him blood pressure medication which seemed to solve his problems.
