I'm looking to take my 17 yr old son somewhere that he can go swimming in a nice clear lake. He doesn't want to fly so we will be driving from Baton Rouge . Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thank you

C'mon, the wave pool at Blue Bayou is spotlessly clean.

Hot Springs AR will be by far your closest options. Several Lakes.

Thank you. Any suggestions on places to stay? I'm thinking about renting a cabin if I can find one this late.

You guys backpack? I just did the first 40 miles or so of the Appalachian Trail with my 3 sons, good times.

Beaver's Bend in OK is closed right now, I believe, due to how they were forced to open all 8 gates last weekend which flooded the park.

Arkansas has so many beautiful places but I can't recommend any due to the same above reasons. Make a list of options and start calling would be my best advice.

We did a little hiking before but nothing big. That sounds like fun and will check it out. Thank you Lakeboy

Arkansas is beautiful. I went in fishing in January, and I'm going back next week since we had such a good time.

Plus it's stuck in the 1960's. Have your poker face ready when the say a nice furnished cabin is less than $100 per night.

I would say Greer's Ferry in AR, but all the nice lakes over there are testing positive for E Coli due to all the recent flooding. That lake is usually gin clear.

I don't know much about cabins. We went to Lake Hamilton last year and that place is covered in some really nice homes and rentals. We stayed here (thanks paw in law) . I think Lake DeGray is more secluded, so you may want to search around there if looking in the Hot Springs area. And you can always look at the Buffalo River. Little further drive but may be more of what your looking for. My kids are just about old enough to go make a float trip. Beautiful up there....
