Maybe a local will speak up, but from what I have heard, the southern areas of Montgomery are some of the most dangerous.
I would only consider staying in the Taylor Road area if staying in Montgomery - look back at my earlier post for the location. I would avoid the Southern Blvd.
Lots of safer choices in Troy, Ozark or even Enterprise if Dothan is definitely out.

I would recommend Salt Water Grille over Firefly any day, FWIW. I'm a local and lots of people rave about Firefly but I've never been too impressed. The Lookout is a fun bar to go to in Mexico Beach as well.
