Yeah. Where have you been? Doesn't really seem fishy, as having an offshore account doesn't necessarily mean you are doing something shady. I think a couple other celebs have been named as well.

Yeah and where have you been? If you think these aren't set up for tax havens you are pretty naive.

I would be shocked if she wasn't doing her full part to support British Socialism

Unless its illegal, I have no problem with this. Even if it is a raging feminist.

It's not illegal.

I don't blame people for taking legal means to avoid inefficient, over burdensome, and unjust tax systems.

I wouldn't care if it were illegal. I don't blame people for taking any means to avoid inefficient, over burdensome, and unjust tax systems. Save as much as you can. Cheat on your taxes. All for it.

But I do have a problem with people who speak ill of "the rich", praise socialism, and repeat the "pay your fair share" mantra using methods such as these. They're hypocrites.

She needs to do 3 cycles of free-bleeding as penance for her transgression.

Because the news wants us to believe that a 26 year old British chick tried to game the system by hiding assets. You know, because she walked into her financial advisers office and said "I want to hide money offshore."

It's so stupid. There are real pieces of shite that are hiding assets, but Emma Watson isn't likely to be the one that came up with, and implemented the plan. I'm not saying she's not smart enough to do so, only that it's unlikely.

Explain. I set up Cayman Islands and other offshore jurisdictions entities all the time for clients.

So what are the tax and monetary advantages? I'm curious. It's thrown around as common knowledge so much that there are some. What are they?

My company's bank (fairly large - out of New York) does a daily cash sweep to another bank in the Cayman Islands for interest income purposes. We only receive a small amount of interest income.

What is the bank's purpose for using this Cayman Islands account? Are they earning better interest than if it was kept in the US?
