Office problem

Older guy will come and talk to me for about 20 min at a time, multiple times a day... about absolutely nothing. He's one of those guys that doesn't take social cues. Even if I'm short with him he'll keep talking. Also, he recycles the same joke about twice every week.
Do I continue to be nice and appease him, or do I say "I don't feel like talking" and be a jerk and potentially harm future relationships?
Anybody else have similar problem in the office?

is said older guy the CEO? if yes then yes. If no, then get up when hes talking to you and go to the bathroom, if he follows you then you have a bigger problem on your hands

Invite him to hang out on the weekends. Sounds like a friendship is brewing.

Sorry, I go home to nobody all alone and I suffer from alzheimer's'. It won't happen again.
Can't wait to catch up on the weekend Monday, I might have a new joke or two for you.

Keep looking at your computer screen and type or pretend to type until they get the hint. I have to do this with a lady at work, it's kind of rude but effective

What's his position in the company and how well is he connected to upper management?

Have a guy that does the same thing. He also goes to each person throughout the office and says the same thing to each employee. Never takes the hint to gtfo. He'll do this at 6 AM when everyone hasn't even had their first cup of coffee. Someone is gonna sock him one day.

My boss's secretary is similar. Her first grandkid was just born and she insists on showing me every single picture that her son sends her. It wasn't that bad at first but the damn baby is like 2 months old now and it has gotten pretty old. Now everytime she shows me a picture of the kid I just stare at her and ask her why she is showing it to me. Once I started doing this she stopped doing it as much. I don't understand why people think that everyone else wants to see pictures of/hear about their kids/grandkids ALL THE TIME. To the rest of us it is just some random baby.
