You could be an a-hole and they will probably visit less. You could also just say you are working on something and need to focus.

This is what I said...and not even to "be an a-hole" but just to be sort of short and not give off the vibe that you're in a chatting mood. Thus what I explained above that I do when someone waltzes into my office and wants to chat me up about some bullshite nonsense.

I'm REALLY good at pretending to be uber-focused on TD.

/thread?

That could work once, maybe twice at best.

They've already been in his office more times than that today, and it's not even 10:30.

How about the co-worker that either doesn't work as hard as you, or doesn't have as much to do as you that you have to avoid eye contact with, because they'll small talk you to death ?

If someone is in my office to long, I just get up start walking out. If required, I continue walking out allowing them to follow. The first person I see in the hallway I invite into the conversation. As soon as he is hooked, I walk back to my office or to kitchen or pisser.

Also I hate when people read your computer screen at work, I find it very rude and aggravating.

I have mine turned to where it's not easy to see what is on my screen. And I do that not because I look at bad things at work, but just because I don't like people rolling up and watching my screen (like some people like to do).

But even if they see me on TD, I don't try to hide it. Most people I work with know I post here.

Have you tried to get them to help you with something? Like "Hey man... I'm working on this project and if you could help me with some of this stuff that would be great"

I know I'd be like "Uh yeah... I gotta go now"

People hate doing work stuff. Seems like they'd avoid coming to your office if you kept asking them to help with something.

This happens to me a lot, and it's extremely uncomfortable. I just want to get my shite done and get out of here, and they linger waaaaayyy too long and much too frequently. And once one guy parks it in my office, it's like an open invitation for the other guys to gather around and blabber.

I haven't found a solution yet. I tried the Fake-a-call phone app, but that doesn't always chase people out of the office.

My office is my house and truck. I have no coworkers hanging out wanting to chitchat in either :(

Everytime they stop by, start the conversation with, "great, I'm glad you stopped by. I'm so busy, can you take care of this really quick? Thanks"

Even if it doesn't stop them from visiting, at least they will be doing your work.

That's not a horrible idea. There used to be a woman who worked here that loved to hear herself talk. I got up one day and she followed me into the hall, and I went to the bathroom, and when I came out she was still there waiting for me. I busted out laughing and had to give her credit for not giving up.

That works one time, and then it starts to seem weird that you have to piss every time they walk in.

Not a bad idea, but this dude is in a slightly different department than the rest of us. So they can't really help him.

Do you work near Plank Road? I feel like you could find some company around there...might cost you a few bucks though, but something tells me you've paid for company before anyway.

See. This shite is why it pays to never come off as very friendly.

They poke fun at me because they say I never speak. But it saves me from that kind of stuff. The girl in the room next to me will sometimes come and tell me what she's laughing at on the computer, which I generally don't find funny, but otherwise.. I'm a loner.
