Looking to play a round on Oahu. Staying in Waikiki, but I imagine most courses on the island are within a reasonable distance (except for the Turtle Bay courses). I want good condition, great views, and something moderately challenging for a mid-80s hack.

KO'OLAU looked awesome, but I'm not sure a course with 152 slope rating ( ) would be enjoyable.

Any recs?

Hmmm, that response always makes me nervous. I'll assume you are also looking for recommendations.

For my honeymoon we stayed at Turtle Bay and drove to Waikiki one day to check it out. The drive wasn't bad at all. I played both courses at Turtle Bay and they were both great with the Palmer course being the better of the two. Other than that I have no other suggestions.

It's a gorgeous course. I really enjoyed it. It's a lot of target golf. I didn't play the tips, which is why I had to tee off with irons a bunch and I don't enjoy that. I wish I had played the tips. It's difficult, but I felt like I could have scored really well if I had played it again.

I think you should pay it and come back with lots of pictures.

Played it a few years back. Pretty awesome course. You will have to hit irons off the tee several times and most of the time if you miss the fairway it's gone. Enjoy the views and don't come up short on your 3rd shot into 18. Sand trap is about 20' deep.

That's my index. Applied to an average course (slope of around 130), an 11 index is a 13 handicap.

It would be a 15 at the course mentioned in the thread.

Swing by swing tells me I'm a 11.6

I don't believe it. Probably closer to 14-15

It's supposed to be vacation, but I doubt I'll get away with less than 2 hours a day doing work.

You'll get a lot of Turtle Bay responses but I really like Luana Hills. Front 9 is jungle and back 9 winds UP a mountain. Literally 2 different experiences and not crowded during the weekdays.

It's possible he's delivering the business while on vacation.

Fairly common.

Then why the hell are you staying in Waikiki? Is it mandatory? That place is the biggest shite hole tourist trap I've ever been to.

You need to to getup to the north shore. Stay and play at turtle bay.

Maybe I should go eat some hay, and lay by the bay, I just may. What do ya say?

The main reasons were 1) Convenience, 2) needing a Hilton to use my cache of points, and 3) we originally intended to bring junior, so touristy was kind of the point. Decided to fly in his grandpa to watch him last minute, and point costs are too high to switch now. Leaving Saturday.

Never been to Hawaii, so touristy is ok for me this time. Pearl, on the beach, easy from airport. We are renting a car, which will help us escape the noise for a day.
