NATCHITOCHES—Northwestern State University has reported a record enrollment this fall of 11,447, an increase of 547 students, or 5 percent, over last year’s total of 10,900.
Dr. Chris Maggio, who has served as president of Northwestern since 2017 during a period when the university reached the four highest enrollments in its 136-year history, said the current record registration “is remarkable and especially gratifying in the midst of the global pandemic.”
Maggio said this year’s enrollment increase “reflects both the extraordinary effectiveness of the faculty and staff in continuing to provide quality instruction and services during the health crisis and the resilience and perseverance of our students in overcoming monumental challenges.”

I actually met him once and he seems like a genuine good guy. Not your typical egg head academic

When I was at NSU I worked at Maggio’s liquor store.

A college president who owns a liquor store is the most Louisiana thing ever.

Everyone I know who went there has never had anything bad to say about it. In fact, just the opposite.

I was talking to someone several months ago whose daughter goes there. Of course with COVID she didn't have a full year experience yet, but he said when they brought her there she was crying and saying how she would come home every weekend.. She went home the first weekend then ended up staying up there until the week before Christmas and went back right after new years.

Is it arguably the 2nd best public university in the state?

His father is the one who owned it. Sold but name remained the same.

Sounds like good business to me. If he was smart he would also sell condoms.

Was that the drive thru one?

I only spent a year there in the early 90's but I do recall that clearly!

NSU is a well run school. Obviously has problems but Maggio is an excellent president. Actually cares about the school and not just using it as a stepping stone

I've known Maggio and his wife for many, many years. Great couple.

He was over recruiting for that school long ago and got kids from families loyal to other schools to come to Natchitoches. Happened with my kids in fact. Never bothered me.

Good man, will do a good job as long as he's there.

The guy grew up in Natchitoches and as far as I know has been here ever since. He bleeds NSU. He's picking up where the previous President left off.
