The Army announced Friday the first 22 women to be commissioned as infantry and armor officers under new rules that open all ground combat jobs to females this year. The move is a major step toward integrating women into so-called ground combat jobs, placing them in leadership roles in occupations that were never open to them. The 22 women are near completion of their officer training and will be commissioned as second lieutenants in coming weeks.

If they want to put their life on the line for our country then God bless them. Maybe put them in their own platoon so they don't risk the lives of other men??? Or frick...give them a bunch of HGH so they become as strong and able as their men counterparts.

The reality is that the next 25 years or at least fore see able future all "wars" are going to be more like our current policing of smaller nations than WW2. I've read some interesting articles that women in Afghanistan have a much easier time getting intel from kids and local women because they are more comfortable talking to a woman.
I certainly would not want to be in a fox hole or kicking down doors with a woman, but I'm just saying that I can also see where they can have an appropriate place to help the men.

Going on the assumption these officers are equal to their male counterparts, this wouldnt result in a reduction of war fighting capability, right?
I do pity whoever gets stuck in their platoon.
I do have a small caveat in that officers are not expected to do a lot of war fighting themselves but rather "manage" their unit. In that sense I have less of a problem with women being officers than their enlisted counterparts. This certainly won't help officer-enlisted relations though. Or maybe it will .

Yeah, but that's not where this is headed.

I keep hearing that morale is at an all time low in the Army. Now that the guys are going to be getting laid in the field, maybe this will turn out to be a good thing.

The IDF seems pretty top notch and they have been having women in combat roles for a long time.
