Agree completely.
This bridge toll garbage is one of the biggest scams going.
The bridge operates independently. They have their own police Dept. that just works the bridge. Nothing but government fat that needs to be trimmed to the bone. When is this state and our new Governor going to pull their head out of their arse and do something about this never ending corrupt scam?

the causeway is safe because of the causeway police

At the very real risk of sounding like a Defund Police idiot: Couldn't the job of traffic control on the Causeway be accomplished by some $15 an hour employees driving those DoT trucks with the lights and blinking arrow signs? Give LSP jurisdiction to write speeding tickets on the bridge (they would love that actually) and let the traffic control trucks handle fog caravans and broken down cars. Ditch the Causeway Police and save millions a year.

You must pay for the privilege of driving on one of the most dangerous bridges in the state.

So they had to increase the tolls to bring in more revenue, yet they are urging you to get a tag, which is cheaper and would decrease potential revenue

Any UHaul or Moving Van going northbound should be a $500 toll.
They should also prorate the tolls based on how long a person has lived on the northshore. The longer the residency the less you pay. Start with the date of Hurricane Katrina.

“We’re very pleased to inform you that our new tolls are coming in much lower than anticipated,” Carlton Dufrechou said.
Ah yes, the ole "hey we told you we're increasing our price but the increase isn't as much as we thought!" What a crock of shite.

The causeway is one of the best operated roads in the state and we have people bitching about a $3.40 toll to use it.
Says a lot about this state.

That’s cool and all that they are indeed pretty well run, but I’m pretty sure they’ve refinanced the debt several times and just keep paying interest.
The budget very well be could be trimmed some, but I guess they want to keep funding safety initiatives.
On that note, who ended up having to pay for that massive screw up with the new guard rails having to be re-worked during this last project?

I drive it 5 days a week. There is zero reason for the added cost. On top of all the inflation that is killing everyone, the Causeway Commission piles on.
...and some peanut gallery guy from Prairieville is going to make a comment.

inflation causes increased costs to the upkeep of the bridge too, so it makes sense that there would be one in this inflationary economy we're in.
the causeway is incredibly well managed. it's actually pretty remarkable how efficient they are at keeping it clear and keeping it moving.

Didn't realize people from Prairieville were exempt from using the Causeway

Currently, there are SEVEN parishes that receive toll money from the causeway. This money is spent on all sorts of things, including recreation districts.
So basically, Northshore people are subsidizing your kids soccer facilities.

I remember when Harry Lee threatened to arrest Causeway cops for impersonating a police officer when they threated to force JP cops to pay the toll.
