Thinking about taking the wife to a bed and breakfast in Mentone this week but read that some fires have broken out around there. We'd like to do some hiking.

Mentone Inn Facebook says there is one north of town on County 89 that they are worried about. What rain there was did not knock it down.

I'd like to see Desoto Falls... supposedly the drought is so bad that the only thing falling is air.

From this story, I might wait on your trip. HSV TV story

Yeah, one of the fires burned down the Mentone Springs Hotel.

Not as bad as it was last week. I think you'd be fine.

The hiking would more than likely still be good but the trails around Little River wouldn't be as scenic due to there not being a drop of water in the river and all the waterfalls are bone dry.

Down in the canyon, hiking the dry river bed is easier than when river running, due to lack of a trail system. Tricky and strenuous but you can cover a lot more of from point a-to-b than usual.
