After a review of submitted bids for a new Jimmie Davis Bridge, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development awarded the contract to James Construction Group, LLC, with a price bid of $361,743,367 and a proposed time to completion of about five years.

quote:

Construction is anticipated to begin in early 2024, with an estimated completion in late 2028, weather permitting. The design-builder will construct a new four-lane bridge north of the current structure.

Once complete, the Jimmie Davis Bridge will be rehabilitated into a linear park that will connect the existing bicycle and pedestrian trails across the Red River. At that point, DOTD said the repurposed bridge will be transferred to Louisiana State Parks within the Office of Culture, Recreation, and Tourism.

Additionally, LA 511 (Jimmie Davis Highway) will be reconstructed from the east end of the Jimmie Davis Bridge to U.S. 71 (Barksdale Boulevard) into a four-lane, median-divided highway, providing a full-access interchange between LA 511 and Arthur Ray Teague Parkway.

Cars will be driving across that bridge before they've finished the studies on the new Mississippi RIver bridge in Baton Rouge.

Meanwhile, the part of Louisiana that's growing (south Louisiana), has collapsing freeway bridges and a desperate need for a new river crossing.

Shreveport’s network of roads and highways has always surpassed BR’s.

frick Shreveport, though.

I thought I heard it was going to be a toll bridge to help pay for it.

Is the I-10 bridge in Lake Charles still standing? I think that they’re going to wait for it to literally collapse before they replace it.

It's crumbling. But it's there.

Is the last 3 or 4 numbers just random? Do we really believe the estimating is that accurate? Is it a bidding strategy?

$361,750,000

We use random numbers in estimating, yes.

No need to build a raised bridge there to accommodate river traffic. It’d be cheaper to build a drawbridge for the rare boat requiring clearance.

They use the same machine that draws the numbers for the lottery.
