In the wake of the city’s decision to separate exotic dancing from drinking by the end of next week, the owner of Williston’s last remaining strip club says he will turn the business into a gathering spot for the LGBT community.

“We’re just going to relinquish our cabaret license,” said Jarod Holbrook of Heartbreakers. Topless dancers will perform at the club until May 6, after which Holbrook plans to shut down and re-open in mid-May as a gay and lesbian bar.

What makes something a "gay bar"?

“We have had a huge response from the gay and lesbian community,” he said, adding that the idea for the bar’s transformation came from “hundreds” of people reaching out.

The business will likely be the only one of its kind in the region, and Holbrook is hoping for suggestions on events, music and even a new name for the bar from the community he plans to serve.

Don't forget the rabbit skin hats too, it's cold there.

well...i've been in one gay bar, George's downtown under the bridge.
Was delivering bar crap to them during the day. Did not know it was a gay bar. Put everything inside, asked the bull dyke lesbians if i could use the bathroom and then finally realized i was in a gay bar.
They had porno covers framed all over the place.
I distinctly remember Butt Pirates of the Caribbean, with a big hairy dude spread eagle with a hairy a-hole grabbing his cock.

I would say the Butt Pirates of the Caribbean picture is one of the things that made it a gay bar.

Okay, but here's my point. It's a strip club now. Frequented by mainly straight men.

You can't just slap a fabulous coat of paint on it, call it the Baloney Pony, and make it a "gay bar"

If your clientele aren't primarily gay, is it really a "gay bar"?

Are all the gays automatically going to shun their old watering holes and suddenly frequent this place?

In new orleans, I've heard the rainbow flags, Gaga music videos, and dudes on the bar in white briefs can be a dead giveaway.

The jukebox will be nothing but the Village People, Bette Midler, and Barbara Streisand. The tv will stay tuned to Bravo instead of ESPN. No straight man will want to go there anymore.

Heartbreakers
I've definitely been here The only decent looking women in the area. It's basically a meet-and-greet for Williston's hooker population. I was talking with one of the strippers and apparently during the boom, the dancers could pull in upwards of $5k/week off all of the lonely oilfield baws

They won't last long...as this is Williston, ND...not San Francisco. Not a very vocal (or prevalent) LGBT community in those parts
