Police say Williams was driving west in a 2007 Jeep Compass on North Claiborne Avenue toward Orleans Avenue when she struck the pedestrian, a 37-year-old woman, who for an unknown reason was in the right lane of traffic. Williams continued driving about six blocks with the victim's body on the top of the Jeep, by the windshield, police say.

Very timely thread with the other mouth breathers who think the DWI laws are just fine as they are now posting in the other thread.

I don't fault you for being salty, I'm sure most people that drive after drinking don't believe that it could happen to them, no not me. It does though

Our DUI laws suck arse. They do nothing to prevent drunk driving they just try to ruin your life and cost you big $$$ if you get a DUI. They are nothing more than a money scam. If the local governments were serious about stopping drunk driving they would have the police give you a ride home (like here in St. Maarten it is awesome walking out of a bar and getting a ride home from a cop) or work with cab companies, Uber, Lyft, the bus companies, etc to have alternate ways for you to get home on the cheap. Just like the War on Drugs, the politicans and police do not care to stop something they just want to make their $$$ from it.
ETA: As far as the incident in the OP is concerned. That is horrible and I would not hit it.

Are you damn stupid? So police officers should take you home in which case they wouldn't be able to respond to someone who actually needs assistance.
Alternatively there are methods for you to get home safely, no one needs to give you a discount on getting you home though due to you being a drunk with poor planning skills.
Additionally why would any transportation company agree to lowered fares for drunks when they undoubtedly cause the majority of problems for their drivers

1. Police officers at a checkpoint are not able to respond to assistance. Cops that are more concerned with DUIs than crime don't respond to assistance either. I got robbed in downtown Jackson Ms waiting on our dd to come pick us up and there was a cop 20 feet away, but he was more concerned with harassing our dd (who got pulled over as he was entering the bar area) that ended up passing all the stupid human tricks and blowing a 0.0000000.
2. Our med school and most of the big resorts have contracts with off-duty police officers. It takes alot more drunk drivers off the road than the checkpoint with off-duty police officers method. St. Maarten is actually split in half. The French side has dui laws that are so strict that it would make MADD squirt in their panties, but the dutch side has no dui laws. Guess what, there are just as many, if not more, alcohol related accidents on the french side as the dutch. There has been no study (because this is the caribbean and they don't do studies or common sense down here) I am just using my observations from reading the newspaper every morning and getting the traffic reports that way, but it is an interesting comparison.

Who said anything about lowering fairs or taking revenue from the transportation companies. During Christmas and New Years, alot of cities and alcohol companies have free ride home promotions and other things. For example, how about using MADD and federal grants to fund for surge pricing for Uber rides or pay for cabs during LSU games in BR instead of using them to fund checkpoints or how about instead of paying for police officers to sit outside tigerland in BR and on brightside on thursday night, how about paying for someone to run a drunk bus to the neighborhoods where most of the college kids live.

Police officers who are working a check point are doing extra duty dumbass. They weren't scheduled to work. The typical work crew is still working. I hate when people like you make statements and don't even know the facts.
