that fricking sucks. I take my nephews out there quite a bit living only 35min away. Never heard of anyone getting their brain ett. However after the first week of July we don't like to swim do to the algae in the water, but that was just because its nasty and we don't want an ear infection.

I was being facetious literally about a "Free Candy" van. There's some sketchy folk about in some of the campgrounds named here, sorry if that strikes a nerve.

Go most anywhere on the planet, there's sketchy folks but living and sleeping next to them is different than shopping next to them.

Try out Indidan Creek near alexandria...I grew up in the area and have relatives with kids who camp there during the summers...there are 3or 4 different beaches and typically a good number of kids there on any weekend...unfortunately, there are not a lot of organized events for kids or adults...gotta entertain yourself...

FWIW, any decent campground is gonna have folks there who know one another, as campers are a very friendly bunch and do tend to visit amongst themselves...

You could do the beach thing at Fort Pickens, but it's probably a little beyond the 3 hr range.

Cajun palms is not camping. Big parking lot full of jacked up golf carts, loud music, tight spaces. It has it's place if your into heavy partying but not campground atmosphere. We went there once with S.O. Family. Left before weekend was over. Was not for us

Look for jellystone's. They are all family oriented and have clean facilities. All are different but they have things like outdoor movies, snack bars, pools, playgrounds, etc.

We stayed at a few and the kids loved it. I don't know if there's any close to you but there most probably are. They're everywhere.

Sure, if you're looking for a place where you can sit quietly and reflect on the beauty of your natural suroundings then you're absolutely correct.

As a parent I know what this guy is looking for and Cajun Palms is it. There's more things for kids to do than any other park I've ever been to, it's the Chuckee Cheese of campgrounds

We LOVE LOVE LOVE Cajun palms for the kids. We do Halloween and usually one summer trip here.

We do tickfaw most of the time for the quiet though.

Really, thoroughly enjoyed the one outside of Gatlinburg, however, we were completely underwhelmed by the one in Robert. It was the offseason, but the game room was closed and they didn't let us use the boats because, 'the boats don't start until next week-end. It was low 70's and beautiful. Cancelled our second night in one of their cabins.

I've found Louisiana private campgrounds are run down, trashy campgrounds that are more like trailer parks.

There are a few exceptions.

In this state, stick to the State parks as often as possible.
We try to avoid the CG's where the RV's are only used for a crash pad at the end of a night of heavy drinking.

I am sorry that I did not read any previous posts. However, if you are only talking about 3 hours from NO, then you should go to Gulf Islands National Seashore Pensacola section at Fort Pickens, Pensacola Beach. It is easily the best beach within 1000 miles of New Orleans. The campground woods have suffered to some degree from salt water intrusion into the island marshland/pineland as a result of the last several hurricanes. However, it is still the best bang for the buck for camper/RVrs on the Gulf Coast. Picture lots of beautiful beach with no one else around.

We take the kids to Fontaibleau about 1 every 2 months. Lots of space and always something to walk around and see and close to home!

Fairview is alright, just smaller and once you have walked around once or twice it is kind of boring

Bouga Chitto is nice as well, but the last time we went the roads were still limestone. It was a dust bown and it was hard to eve walk down the street when other campers would drive by.

Little Black Creek in Ms is similar to Wiggins...part of the Pat Harrison waterway with the big lake and dam for the kids to see. Lots of hills to walk up and down.

We travel with 4 kids and have a bumper pull. It is a great experience for the kids and us...keeps us in close quarters and limits the electronics a bit more! The kids love the adventure even if it is just walking around and playing in the dirt. We have also tried the geocaching while camping and they have all enjoyed that as well.
