4 grand is ridiculous

You could buy a car. Get that inspected. And then take tge inspection sticker off that car and put it on your old car for that price

Not if your registration says you live in the areas that require the emissions check.

Not true, I know from first hand experience there are many places outside of Baton Rouge that DGAF and will give you an inspection sticker no matter what. Also will give you a 2 year inspection for $20

Not sure what the law is in LA, but if your sticker doesn't match your registration county in Texas, you get fined. Most places won't do the inspection and can get in trouble if they issue inspection stickers for cars registered in a different county.

Go somewhere other than Baton Rouge to have your truck inspected.
5 or 6 parish area and they go by the address on your drivers license and confirm your license plate through the DVM

I know in WA State, you had to have passed the emissions before they would issue the registration sticker.

Should be easy. Bring it around to different shops and ask them to estimate the costs of fixing whatever is making the check engine light turn on.

edit: Wait, do they actually check emissions or do they read the computer? I never noticed.

Go to Port Allen just across the river. It's a EBR problem.

I don't think these places have some machine that tests if the car is spitting out clean fumes. I'm pretty sure they just check the computer, because mine sure wasn't clean and it passed for 3 years until I sold it. I took it to 3 different places too.
