I had a 2006 GC with 160,000 miles on it that I handed down to my MIL last year. There was a leak in the A/c that I thought was fixed, but apparently not. I feel like that Jeep will roll another 100,000 with minimal maintenance, which I why I gave it to her in the first place. Besides the A/C, it ran like a top and all I had done was oil changes/tire rotations.

They were going to give me $3000 trade in on mine, so if you think you can fix it and drive it for a year or so, I think you'll get about $1500-2000 for yours. Or You might see what the trade in is without the A/C and if you're comfortable with taking on a car note, then go for it.

It's totaled at this point. Sell it to me for $500 and I'll deal with the burden.

Rule of thumb my finance professor in undergrad gave: get a new car when the maintenance costs on the one you have exceed its value.

KBB says yours is worth $3100, or thereabout. So, Dr. Hill's rule would say to fix the A/C.
