Going up for one night with Mrs. Upper. Would like an area where we could walk around and hit up a good restaurant and then a bar. I don't know much about the area and would appreciate some experienced opinions.
Edit: Forgot to ask for hotel recommendation for said area.

Make sure you don't take a wrong turn on the interstate and accidentally end up in East St. Louis.

Stay at the Moonrise Hotel. You can walk to several good restaurants and bars. And there's a great live music venue about a block away. Their rooftop bar is really cool, with a good view of downtown and the Arch. About 3-4 months ago they were working on the trolly line right in front of the hotel, but I think they've moved on by now. You're only a few blocks from Wash U and that park that's the biggest urban park in the USA.

Pruitt-Igoe as far as where to stay.
Only the locals know about it.

If price isn't an issue stay in the Central West End area, lots of restaurants and bars for walking. If able to drive or Uber head over to the Soulard neighborhood for bars and some good places to grab a bite.
