We are going to Perdido key in a couple of weeks and want to bring our own chairs instead of using the beach service. What does the OT suggest that I use for shade? Should I go with one of the Shibumi shades or something similar like the Sun Ninja or Nesso. Are these as easy to set up as they say and do they stand up to the wind? Or is my best bet just to get a couple of umbrellas.

I know a lot of people love those new ones that sort of blow in the wind. Don't remember the name of them (I'll edit if I can remember).

For you personally, I'd just roll with a brimmed hat. Something like this:

ETA: I think this is it. Shibumi Shade:

Get you a Yeti tent. They keep you cool for 7 days and only cost $1399

And make sure it’s the lightest thing possible and not tethered down.

Don't overthink it. Get a couple sand screws and some basic beach umbrellas.

That is what I am thinking. Those shades look cool but I bet they aren’t as easy to set up as advertised.

Quit being an OT Poor and pay for the service. Who wants to drag 2 kids, a drunk wife, 4 chairs, a umbrella, a cooler, and half of santa's bag full of water toys, up and down steps twice a day.

IMO, no. Umbrella's with an anchor are so much easier and less intrusive

Any smart man knows you down down as the sun rises with your coffee and setup the chairs and umbrella for the family when you all go down around 9:30ish and it stays down there all day.

We normally get beach service but the last time we stayed at this condo the chairs were the smaller chairs with detachable foot rest and were not very comfortable. Plus the beach guy is ready to pick up chairs and umbrellas at 3pm and I am just getting started at that time of day.

Beach umbrella can double as lawn darts when you get tired of sitting on your arse.

We literally own several condos and pay for chairs on the beach, but we still keep camp chairs and beach umbrellas in the closet. We take it down early AM and set up close to water and leave it all day. Who the frick takes stuff up and down? We have a cart, but any doofus can carry two chairs and an umbrella to save a spot.

When I see all those facebook canopies flapping in the wind, it makes me laugh. Just get an umbrella.
